People often ask us for the best Worcester Bosch boiler, as if there were one answer. There is not. The best boiler is the one that matches your home, your hot water needs and your budget. Worcester Bosch sells several ranges, from entry-level to top-of-the-range, and the models are updated regularly, so we confirm what is current when we quote.
Start with the type
Before you look at ranges, decide on the type. Our guide to combi, system and regular boilers explains the differences. In short, a combi suits smaller homes with one or two bathrooms, while a system or regular boiler with a cylinder copes better with several bathrooms in use at once.
Then match the output
Boilers are sold by output in kilowatts. Too small and the house struggles to warm up. Too large and it wastes fuel. The right figure depends on:
- the size and insulation of the house
- the number of radiators
- how much hot water you use at peak times
- whether it is a combi (where hot water output matters a great deal) or a system
This is why a survey beats a guess. A good installer works the figures out rather than quoting from a brochure.
Ranges, in general terms
Worcester Bosch ranges generally step up as follows. Always check the current line-up, as names and specifications change.
- Entry level: straightforward, good value, simple controls. Suits smaller homes with modest demand.
- Mid range: better heat exchangers and controls, often with longer guarantees. A popular choice for family homes.
- Top of the range: the most advanced features, quietest operation and longest guarantees, usually for larger homes or those who want the most refined option.
Other things worth considering
- Controls. A smart thermostat or weather compensation can improve efficiency noticeably, and on new combi installs in England some form of extra control is a requirement anyway.
- Guarantee length. Longer cover can be worth paying for, provided the conditions are realistic for you.
- Noise. If the boiler is going in a kitchen or next to a bedroom, ask about sound levels.
- Space and flue. Where the boiler goes and where the flue can exit can limit your options.
- Running costs. A more efficient boiler costs more upfront. Whether it pays back depends on how much heating you use.
Beware of rankings and league tables
"Best boiler" lists are often written to sell a particular product. The most useful advice comes from an installer who has seen the boilers in real homes and who will be the one looking after it.
